My NYC Bucket List
Tumblr media
OK. So this August will be my 8th anniversary living on the East Coast in the U.S. During that time, a lot has happened (to say the least). But it occurred to me that despite all the life changes, growing pains, and never-saw-coming absurdities that is my existence, I've managed to do some pretty cool things since I've moved to the tri-state area.
So with that revelation, a part of me felt the need to write down all the things I've done that might fall in the "tourist-y" category over the past 7.5 years. Which then led to me thinking about all of the tourist-y things I've yet to do.
And here we are.
Below is a list of 80 (so far) things I've either done or hope to do while living on the East Coast of the U.S. You'll notice that I don't have some popular things on the list like "visit the Top of the Rock" or "visit the top of the Empire State Building." That's because I don't care for heights that much, so that's not something I would ever want to do. With that said, if my NYC Bucket List inspires you and you want to add more vertical activities to your own list, I say go for it!
Before we dive in, please keep in mind that I'm an arts & culture geek and lifelong literature & history nerd. So if most of this seems boring to you, well ... I guess I'm just a really boring person.
Now without further ado ...

Believe it or not, I was hoping to come up with 100 items for the list, but I've run out of things to add. If anyone has any other ideas they'd like to suggest to help me get closer to 100, I'm all ears.
You'll probably notice that I have very little on the list for the outer boroughs, so I'd be especially interested in suggestions for Queens, Staten Island, BK or BX.
Oh, and I should also mention that I'm not really interested in visiting the High Line or anything happening at the Piers. They're just not my thing.
Of course, this list is for inspiration and gratitude purposes only. It's not meant to make me or anyone feel less than. I'm simply capturing what I've done so I can look at it when I'm feeling sorry for myself in the future about how poor I am.
But it's also a lovely reminder of what else I have left to check out when money and time are on my side. ☺️

Here's an 1854 Anglo-Italianate 5 story townhouse in the Greenwich Village section of New York City. 5bds, 7ba, $15.5M and it's already under contract. The most wonderful thing about it is in the backyard, though.
Tumblr media
Love the sophisticated main room, and the view, but tbh, for this kind of money, I'd really want a separate dining room.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't care for the floating MCM shelving with that fireplace. I think that the fancy crown molding is probably a wallpaper border.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A kitchen / family room. I like the fireplace and book shelving, but it looks like a wall was taken down in the kitchen and the kitchen was last remodeled around the mid-century. The linoleum floor looks original.
Tumblr media
One of the stair cases- there are 5 floors, so this is just one of several. I like the niche. (There is an elevator, too.)
Tumblr media
The primary bedroom is spacious and modern with an original fireplace.
Tumblr media
Cute bath with a vintage tub and new shower. Look at how low the faucets are, though.
Tumblr media
Secondary child's bedroom is also very large.
Tumblr media
All of the bedrooms are huge. This one on the 5th floor has been modernized and has a beautiful skylight.
Tumblr media
This one is also very spacious and is modernized, including the fireplace.
Tumblr media
The ground floor at the garden level has been finished and doors open to the patio. They call this an English Basement.
Tumblr media
This is very nice to have, especially in NYC.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From this room's window you can see the special feature I was talking about.
Tumblr media
Isn't this treehouse cool?
Tumblr media
Look at how BoHo the interior is.
Tumblr media
This cedar deck is on the roof.

Elsabela: Perfect Song
CW: Drugs, Ice, Lana Del Rey, Plants
Good morning, afternoon, or evening to anyone reading my post! Thank you for taking the time out of your day or night to read my post.
While I was doing my homework, I was listening to Lana Del Rey. I would not consider myself a Lana stan, but I do enjoy quite a few of her songs, especially ones from her Ultraviolence album.
While I was listening to Lana Del Rey's 2014 song "Brooklyn Baby", I thought that it would be the perfect song for an Elsabela fanfiction. For textual evidence, I have quoted some lyrics below:
First, "They think I don't understand The freedom land of the seventies"
Both Elsa and Isabela wear costumes inspired by 1970s fashion movement, specifically punk and boho.
Tumblr media
In addition, both of them crave freedom and self-expression.
Tumblr media
Next, "I think I'm too cool to know ya You say I'm like the ice, I freeze"
Yes, I am stating the obvious.
Tumblr media
Third, "They judge me like a picture book By the colors, like they forgot to read"
As they sing about in "Let it Go", "Show Yourself", and "What Else Can I Do", people have seen them solely as beautiful, perfect "proper ladies", when they are actually more than perfect princesses.
Tumblr media
Fourth, "But I'm free, ooh-ooh I'm free"
Similar to my third point, both ladies crave freedom.
Tumblr media
Fifth, "I'm talking about my generation Talking about that newer nation"
Both of them at least influence major social change in their respective hometowns.
Tumblr media
Sixth, "And if you don't like it, you can beat it Beat it, baby You never liked the way I said it If you don't get it, then forget it 'Cause I don't have to f*ck*n' explain it"
While I don't think either of them would be that rude to someone, they both have dealt with people, especially parents/grandparents not understanding them or allowing them to express their true selves.
Tumblr media
Second to last, "I've got [flowers] in my hair I get h*gh on hydroponic w**d"
After "What Else Can I Do", Isabela realizes that she can make more than decorative flowers, likely including "medicinal herbs". In addition, I am sure she is interested in learning new gardening techniques.
Tumblr media
Last, "Yeah, my [girl]friend's pretty cool But [she]'s not as cool as me"(Lana Del Rey, Barrie-James O'Neill)
They are both cool ladies, especially in the eyes of their younger sisters.
Tumblr media
Ironically, according to Matthew Jacobs for Huffington Post, Lana Del Rey's song "Brooklyn Baby" is a piece of satire about 2010s-era New York City hipsters and hipster culture. (Jacobs). To state the obvious, Isabela and Elsa are not 2010s-era NYC hipsters, at least in canon and the majority of fanfictions, as their stories are set in small towns in the 19th/20th century, and they are not pretentious or elitist about their personal tastes, which people think of hipsters being.
Overall, the song encapsulates their relationship and personal lives well.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day or night to read my post. Have a good day or night!

HOUSE TOUR: Inside Rayman Boozer's Chic NoHo Loft
First of all, I love that he's from Indiana and living on the East Coast. It's nice to know another Hoosier made it out.
Second, what a great home! Although I'm not a maximalist, I love real bohemian decor and culture. I say "real" because a lot of bohemian spaces are the result of people trying to capture an aesthetic. But with Raymond, his space truly seems to capture his life, what he loves, and who he's met along the way. That to me is what real bohemians do.
His rather monotone way of speaking completely betrays how colorful his lifestyle is. And his approach to his home is a breath of fresh air in a time where everyone seems to decorate largely to impress others, instead of simply expressing themselves.
I especially love that bold blue of the wall unit in the living area. It's beautiful! And of course, I spotted that Kelly bag the minute they walked into the closet.

part of me wants to live out my olsen twin, messy boho socialite, fashion PR, party girl, nyc life that i’ve planned….
the other part of me wants to live off grid, grow my own food and butcher my own meat, bathe in blood, dance under the moonlight naked and dabble in sex magic….
